As my literary interests progressed into adulthood, I began writing short stories. After self publishing two novellas, I amassed a small audience. The next step in my personal goal was to become a traditionally published author. Luckily I managed to achieve two lucrative publishing contracts with a small press. An insane amount of marketing propelled several of my titles to the #1 spot on Amazon and one of my earliest novellas appeared in an anthology alongside several New York Times/USA Today bestselling authors.
But the journey wasn't all fun and games. Authors know creativity is hard work--taking time, patience, money and brain power. There's NO guarantee that anyone else besides the author will read the stories we craft. Riding the hamster wheel of writing, editing, and publishing became exhausting. I finally felt the need to take a break.
Leaving the writing and publishing world behind wasn't a regret, nor was it a permanent decision. The creation of this blog was a reinvention of an old passion. Hopefully, this season of rebuilding and refreshing will remind me of the reason I started my journey.
